Dreaded criminal Hari Mental, associate nabbed in encounter in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Two dreaded criminals were nabbed after an encounter by Commissionerate police at Balianta on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar today.

The criminals, identified as Harihar Samal aka Hari Mental and Lipu sustained bullet injuries on their legs and were shifted to Capital hospital. Two pistols and two live bullets were recovered from their possession.

Senior officials informed that several criminal cases are pending against Harihar at various police stations in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Jagatsinghpur and other parts of the state.

The duo was actively involved in a series of extortion, dacoity, attempt to murder cases and other petty crimes while their involvement in other cases is being verified, said Bhubaneswar DCP, Satyabrat Bhoi.

It is the first encounter in Bhubaneswar in 2018. A total of three criminals have been nabbed in two encounters in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar in the last ten days.

Earlier, a notorious criminal Trilochan Nayak alias Budhia of Sarankul was arrested by Commissionerate Police following an encounter at Gopalpur area under Sadar police station in Cuttack on January 5.
