Dreaded criminal hacked to death; 1 of 4 accused surrenders

Jagatsinghpur: In a bizarre incident, four bike-borne miscreants hacked a dreaded criminal to death in Kulataranga villlage under Sadar police limits here Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as Nrusingha Barik.

As per sources, the incident occurred last night when four miscreants allegedly chased Barik in the village and attacked him with sharp weapons killing him on the spot.

"A few persons have been identified to be involved in the incident. As soon as we heard the cries of Barik's mother, we rushed to the spot and saw the body lying on the road," said a local villager.

Suspecting it to be a pre-planned murder, he further added, "As Barik was given a tender for Anganwadi by local Sarpanch, the miscreants had been demanding money from him as extortion. They called him to the spot and used chilli powder and other sharp weapons to kill him. I think this has been done for extortion. Barik's face has been mutilated."

Meanwhile, police too rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation into the incident. Sources said one of the accused surrendered after the death of Barik, while three others are still at large.
