Aska: A dreaded criminal was injured in an encounter with the police in Aska area of Ganjam district today.

Giving details to the media persons after the incident, Baleswar Gidhi, IIC, Aska Police Station, said the police got the information at about 5 AM that Bulu Patra, an anti-social and a resident of College Square area in the town, is with some of his associates at Bhutatota near Babanapur.

“Acting on the information, a police team, led by me, went to Babanapur. After parking the police jeep there, we walked towards Bhutatota. Seeing the police, Bulu opened three-rounds of fire. In the retaliatory fire by us, he fell down from the bike after one bullet hit his right knee. Meanwhile, another associate present at the spot managed to escape. Police arrested Bulu and seized a mouser, three rounds of live bullets, two mobile phones and a bike from his possession. We shifted him to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur after preliminary treatment in the Aska Government Hospital,” the IIC said.

He also said Bulu has more than 10 cases of dacoity, robbery and murder pending against his name in Polasara, Hinjili, Kabisuryanagar and Aska police stations in Ganjam district and some police stations in Bhubaneswar. He is also involved in the loot of gold ornaments from the house of a businessman in Balipadar area recently. After this incident, he had absconded.

The IIC also informed that with this incident, there have been three encounters in Ganjam district so far this year. “Since the criminals of late are firing at the police, the police is retaliating in self-defence,” he added.
