Rambha(Ganjam): In a major success for Ganjam police, dreaded criminal Santosh Behera was nabbed during a joint operation of Rambha, Hinjili and Sheragada police at Poirasi late last night. In the scuffle, Behera sustained bullet injuries and has been admitted to the MKCG hospital, Berhampur.

Ganjam SP Ashish Kumar Singh had formed a special team comprising officers of Rambha, Hinjili and Sheragada police stations after being tipped off about criminals exhorting money from local businessmen and issuing life threats.

Based on inputs about Santosh Behera and his aides' movements in Poirasi area, the police team started the operation. Finding police in the locality, Santosh started firing at the cops resulting in a scuffle that hurt Behera on the left leg.

However, his aide and another criminal Bijay Moharana managed to escape during the encounter. A manhunt has been launched to nab him, said police sources.

Besides, reports say, the inspector-in-charge (IIC) of Hinjili police station and a constable have also sustained minor injuries.

The police have seized a pistol, two rounds of live bullets and five unexploded bombs from Behera's possession. Besides, two bikes have been also seized from the spot.
