Dreaded criminal Andala injured in encounter

Berhampur: Dreaded criminal Subas Naik alias Andala was injured in a police encounter near Tamada ghat under Golanthara police limits in the town on Monday.

Sources said acting on a tip-off, local police personnel were hiding at the ghat to nab Andala. When the dreaded criminal and one of his associates passed through the road, the police personnel in wiat asked the duo to stop. But Andala fired upon the cops inviting retaliation from the police personnel.

In the exchange of fire, a bullet hit the left leg of Andala. Police admitted the dreaded criminal to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for treatment.

More than 18 cases are pending against Andala at different police stations in the district, said sources.

This encounter is the sixth one in the past two months after Ashish Singh took charge as Berhampur SP.
