Jajpur: Bodies of two persons, including a jewellery shop owner was recovered near Pritipur Bazar under Binjharpur police limits in the district late on Friday night. The deceased have been identified as owner Khageswar Rana and his staff Chaitanya Sahu.

It is suspected that the duo was murdered by unidentified robbers with an intention to loot.

As per sources, Rana and Sahu were returning with jewellery and cash after closing the shop at around 8: 30 pm yesterday when unidentified miscreants intercepted and attacked them with sharp weapons near Kapila and decamped with the cash and ornaments.

The matter came to light after the family members of Rana began searching for him after he did not return home for long. Later, they found Rana and Sahu's body lying in a pool of blood near Kapila and informed police about the incident.

This was not the first instance of attack on the jewelry shop owner. Sources said, a couple of years ago Rana was attacked when he was returning home with cash and jewellery.

Meanwhile, police have sent the bodies for post-mortem. "Prima facie it seems that loot could be a possible reason behind the murder. Investigation is on and the culprits will be nabbed soon," said a senior police official.
