Doll wedding during Raja festival in Puri

Puri: Kandhei Bahaghara (Doll marriage) was performed on the occasion of Raja festival at Kundeshwar village in Kakatpur of Puri district today. Two dolls were decorated as bride and groom as per tradition.

A marriage procession of the two dolls was held in the village after which the marriage was solemnised as per the Vedic rituals by a priest. A lavish feast was also organised for the villagers during the marriage.

The tradition was started by a woman of the village in protest against dowry system after which the women of the village organise it every year during Raja.
