Nabarangpur: After seven long years, justice was finally served to a woman who was paralysed on account of a wrong surgery and medical negligence as a consumer court held the concerned doctor guilty and ordered a fine of Rs 20L as compensation today.

According to reports, in 2010, wife of one Asif Rehman from Taragaon Panchayat under Sadar block in Nabarangpur district was admitted to a private hospital after she suffered labour pain. She was reportedly attended by doctor Santosh Nag.

However, due to a wrong surgery by the doctor, the woman suffered paralysis.

Later, Rehman knocked the door of a consumer court for justice. While pronouncing the verdict in Rehman's favour, the court declared the doctor guilty of medical negligence and slapped a fine of Rs 20 lakh to be paid to the patient as compensation.

Meanwhile, doctor Nag refuted the allegations against him and said he would move the higher court challenging the verdict.

"There is no negligence on behalf of me or the hospital. The judgment of the court was partial," he added.
