Bhubaneswar: In a bizarre incident, a homeopathy doctor shot at a man allegedly for urinating near his clinic in Indradhanu Market in Nayapalli area of Bhubaneswar this morning.

The victim identified as Maheswar Routray, a CESU staff, has been shifted to Cuttack SCB hospital after being initially admitted to Capital Hospital here. His condition is stated to be stable.

The accused doctor, identified as Biswabhushan Pradhan, has been arrested by Nayapalli Police. The revolver used by Biswabhushan has also been seized by the police

“I was urinating at a waste dump near the clinic when the doctor shot me. While I was urinating, the doctor came out and asked me why are you urinating here. I asked him what was the problem since the place was so dirty. On hearing this, the doctor suddenly flared up, went inside the clinic, came out with a weapon and shot at me,” said the victim Maheswar.

According to sources, Maheswar was accompanying one of his staff who had come to see an Ayurvedic doctor in the area.

Commenting on the case, Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said, “As per the preliminary probe, it is understood the Homeopathy doctor fired at the victim after a small altercation. We have seized the pistol and detained the doctor.”

Bhoi further stated, “As per the accused, the pistol is a licensed one and we are verifying the same.”

He said, “The investigation is on. We will record statements of the eyewitnesses and examine CCTV footage.”
