Koraput: Staying true to the Hippocratic Oath in which a doctor pledges to uphold the highest ethical standards that their profession demands, Bhupati Bhusan Jena, a medicine specialist in Koraput District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) has set an example.

According to reports, one Mani Golari (27) of Doraguda village of Boipariguda tehsil in the district was admitted to the DHH. Jena, who was treating her, realized that Mani was suffering from acute shortage of haemoglobin and there was an urgent need of four units of A +ve blood for transfusion. But, the required blood was not available.

With no option left, Jena, whose blood group was same as Mani's, donated his blood to her. After the blood transfusion, Mani is stated to be stable now.

Earlier in March, in a similar instance of exemplary service by a physician in the State, a doctor Yajnadutta Rath responded to an emergency call from the forest areas of Kandhamal district. Rath trekked a hill and waded across the river to rescue a tribal woman, who went into labour on her way to hospital inside Palam forest under Tumudibandha block of the district.

Similarly, another doctor, Omkar Hota in November last year also made headlines after he carried a tribal woman, who was bleeding profusely post-child birth, on his shoulders for 10 km to a nearby Public Health Centre (PHC) in Paplur of Malkangiri district.
