Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police today confirmed that a couple from Jajpur who had refused to accept their baby girl alleging that it was swapped at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack last month are the original parents of the girl.
The police cited that the DNA report of both the child and the couple revealed the connection between them.
Blood samples of all three of them were sent for examination at State Forensic Science Laboratory in Bhubaneswar.
As per reports, Prahlad Mohapatra from Jajpur district had admitted his wife at the hospital after she complained of labour pain. A baby girl was handed over to them on January 26 but they claimed that the child was not theirs.
Later on January 29, they lodged a complaint at Mangalabag police station alleging their baby has been swapped with another one.
Even though the hospital authorities clearly denied any baby swapping and released CCTV footage which showed the newborn girl being taken out of the operation theatre by a midwife accompanied by the child's grandmother, the parents of the girl refused to accept the baby.
Based on the complaint, the Commissionerate Police along with the child welfare committee (CWC) sought legal permission for a DNA test of the girl and the couple.
