Bhubaneswar: The forest department today arrested a person who despite being physically challenged was involved in poaching activities inside Chandaka Wildlife Sanctuary on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

Two others accompanying him managed to flee the spot, forest officials said. According to sources, despite having lost both his hands, Bishnu Pradhan is an expert shooter.

The forest patrol team caught him in the sanctuary while two others escaped by jumping over the boundary wall.

"I had only accompanied the poachers to the forest. When forest officials tracked us they jumped over the boundary after leaving the gun. But I can't climb the wall and was trapped," Pradhan said.

"Three persons had come to the forest for poaching. They are involved in poaching for meat only and not skin and horns. They sell the meat in market at high prices," Bhubanesswar Range officer Ashok Biswal said.

The arrested poacher is also an expert in driving heavy vehicles, informed sources.
