Angul: Condemning the visit of a five-member team of the Angul Municipality to the temporary dumping yard at Talmulsasan village under Banarpal, the district administration said the officials of the civic body went for site inspection without informing the administration.

The district Sub-Collector said there is no proposal for establishment of a dumping yard at the village. What has been proposed at the location is construction of a solid waste management and liquid waste treatment plant.

“That being the case, how did the Municipal authorities send their officials to the place for inspection?” questioned the Sub-Collector adding that an inquiry would be conducted into the matter.

Notably, a team consisting of Angul Municipality senior assistant Ashish Das, three officers of Nirmal Yojana and an officer from the Urban WASH programme had visited the site on Friday for inspection in view of the reported establishment of a permanent dumping yard there, which is being opposed by the locals. When the team reached the place, the villagers detained them for around seven hours and also blocked the old Cuttack-Sambalpur road.

Later, the Angul Sub-Collector and police officials reached the spot and pacified the locals, following which they released the five officials.
