Bhubaneswar: An internal probe was launched into the disrespect of service rifles by newly inducted cadets during passing out parade of Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF) while disciplinary action has been recommended against trainers for such indiscipline.

OISF commandant recommended ‘disciplinary action’ against 10 trainers and other constables who were careless in handling their weapons soon after the passing out ceremony held on Sunday.

Official sources said, the statements of nearly 30 persons including trainers, cadets and their family members have been recorded. A report has been submitted to ADG of Odisha State Armed Police (OSAP) B. Radhika.

“Action will be taken against the constables and trainers,” said OISF Commandant RN Mohapatra.

Former DG Sanjiv Marik on the other hand claimed that action should be taken only after seeking an explanation from the guilty. In this particular case, it appears no drill was conducted as weapons were handed over to small children.

Earlier yesterday, during the passing out ceremony, family members of the cadets were seen holding the service weapons. Even kids were found playing with the service rifles and some were seen taking pictures.
