Bhubaneswar: An Assistant Manager of an electrical section in power distribution company WESCO was arrested by anti-corruption vigilance sleuths in Odisha's Bargarh district today for allegedly accepting a bribe Rs 15,000 to provide connection to a poultry farm.

Based on a complaint, a case was registered against Kunja Bihari Nayak, Assistant Manager and Khirod Behera, Lineman, both of Electrical Section-II, WESCO at Barpali for demanding illegal gratification of Rs 18,000 for supply of electric connection to his poultry farm at Latakera.

The complainant had applied to the assistant manager to supply electric connection to his poultry farm.

Nayak had demanded Rs 15,000 and Rs 3,000 respectively.

Finding no other alternative, the complainant reported the matter to SP, Vigilance of Sambalpur, a vigilance release said.

Accordingly, a trap was laid today and accused Nayak demanded and accepted the bribe money of Rs 15,000 in front of his residential quarter in I.B colony, Barpali and kept the same in his pocket.

Thereafter, apprehending some trouble, he left the spot in his motor cycle and proceeded towards Bargarh, but Vigilance team chased and intercepted him inside an abandoned cold store situated at Lenda, it said.

Seeing the officials, the accused threw the tainted money, which was subsequently seized. The accused has been arrested and his residents situated at Barpali and Rourkela are being searched.
