A meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary AP Padhi to review the state of preparedness by the related departments and agencies to encounter such natural disasters was held on Thursday at the Secretariat.
During the meeting, Chief Secretary directed the departments to make proper inventory of rescue and relief equipment available in both private and government sector and keep it handy for use in emergency situations.
“A database will be prepared which will contain the detail list of contractors, the equipments needed for tackling emergency situations during localised disasters will be kept ready for use at state emergency operation centre,” Special Relief Commissioner Bishnupada Sethi said.
During the meeting the Chief Secretary also urged that the state meteorological department should explore possibility of working out region wise rainfall predictions instead of general readings, location specific predictions for localised disasters like thunderstorms and lightning instead of district-wise warning.
This apart, he further directed to pursue the matter with the IMD, New Delhi for installation of two more Doppler Radars at Sambalpur and Balasore.
