Dinanath Pathy’s lifetime of works on exhibition in city gallery

Bhubaneswar: Better known as the Drawing Master of Digapahandi, Dinanath Pathy remains a pioneer and one of the most significant art historians for Odisha ever. The artist and art critic passed away last year leaving behind a vacuum in the art and culture sphere. But his works continue to inspire artists and art lovers alike.

The rich collection of his works of art and books have been exhibited at Chitrangi- a retrospective, a tribute to Pathy hosted by the Ila Panda Centre for Arts (IPCA) at the Rashtriya Lalit Kala Akademi in Bhubaneswar.

Artists and art lovers alike are getting to see his paintings spanning six decades. These include works from his school days to many from private and international museum collections. His last works have also been displayed at the event.

The displayed works include his oil paintings on canvas, silk and other unique materials while his vast collection of sketches on Odissi dance have also been included in the exhibition. His works were versatile and varied from the spiritual traditions and beliefs of Ganjam to contemporary issues of urban culture. A common element in his works was his perception of the mystic aura of women and Goddesses.

At Chitrangi, a separate section has also been set up with materials from his studio which displays projects he was working on before his sudden demise.

The exhibition, curated by Ramahari Jena, began on Sunday and will conclude on September 3.
