Puri: Digitisation of payment system would go a long way in checking corruption and exploitation of the poor by moneylenders, Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said here on Sunday.

With digitisation, the poor people would be able to get loan easily instead of approaching money-lenders, who often exploit them, Pradhan said while inaugurating the 2nd Digi-Dhan Mela of Odisha.

The government was also promoting Aadhaar Enabled Payment System in the country to promote digitisation of financial services among the general public, he said.

Pradhan also emphasised on the role of Common Service Centres (CSC) in ushering the digital revolution in rural India, he said.

Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries, Babul Supriyo, was also present at the programme.

'Digi Dhan Mela' is the brainchild of the Niti Aayog to promote digital and cashless economy through the use of digital mode of transactions across the country.
