Differently abled girl brutally beaten up in Athgarh; video goes viral

Cuttack: A 20-year-old differently abled girl was brutally beaten by an elderly woman in public in Bishnupur village under Tigiria police limits in the district.

Though the incident occurred on December 5, it came to light only on Monday after a video of the barbaric act went viral on social media.

As per reports, the girl, identified as Dulei, became a victim of past enmity between her father Naya Gochhi and another villager, Manas Senapati. Tension erupted between both the families over the award of construction work contract of a club in the village.

Gochhi had opposed the construction work being awarded to the Senapati family following which the latter’s family members attacked Gochhi, his differently abled daughter and wife, said sources.

“They dragged me on the street road and thrashed with a stick. I pleaded to leave me but they continued thrashing me till police came to my rescue,” said Dulei.

“I told the villagers to carry out the construction work of the club together for which Rs 2 lakh has been sanctioned. Angry over this, Manas Senapati along with his family members beat me, my daughter and wife,” alleged Naya.

Meanwhile, Gochhi family had lodged a complaint with the Tigiria police following the incident but no arrest has been made yet.

“The incident is the outburst of a previous enmity between the two families. We will nab the accused soon,” said Tigria Police IIC, Sushant Satpathy.
