Polasara: The number of diarrhoea affected persons is on the rise in Polasara Notified Area Council (NAC) of Ganjam district since Diwali.

Till date diarrhoea has grasped more than 100 persons in the area, out of which 40 are undergoing treatment at Polasara Community Health Center (CHC).

"The doctors have put me on saline and glucose. We are still clueless about the infection," said a patient Loknath Goud.

While the reason behind the epidemic is still unknown, Junior Engineer (JE) of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) said that a pump house in the area will be closed suspecting the disease is spreading through water.

"As many people claimed that the disease has spread due to water, we will be testing it. We are trying to resolve the current issue. We will probe why there is a sudden outbreak of the disease in this season," said an official.

"It has been three days since diarrhoea was reported and it is currently under control. 20-25 persons have been affected but are presently normal. It spreads mainly through food and water, they may have consumed some contaminated food during the Diwali festival," said Medical Officer of Polasara CHC, Dr Rabinarayan Das.
