Baripada: Tension ran high on the premises of Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital here on Friday over a report that mentioned a  live fetus dead.

As per reports, the Regional Diagnostic Centre at the hospital, in an ultrasound report of January 17, had told an expectant mother Pooja Behera that her baby was not alive. However, unsatisfied with the report, she did the test at a private clinic on the same day and found that her fetus was live.

Later on January 19, she did the test once again at the medical college. Contradicting his earlier report, the doctor at the diagnostic centre advised for a check-up once again after 15 days.

Issuance of contradicting reports by the same centre sparked tension at the hospital with people raising questions over the credibility of the diagnostic facilities.

“The doctor told me that my baby had died. I am still in shock thinking what could have happened if I had aborted the baby. It’s unfortunate that people on such crucial posts are callous and not able to carry out their responsibilities,” said Pooja.

The concerned radiologist however claimed that the report was issued as per the test. “I couldn’t trace the heartbeat, so advised the couple for a medical check-up after 15 days,” said radiologist Biswanath Nayak.

Meanwhile, the hospital superintendent assured that stern action will be taken, if the allegations are found true.
