Bhubaneswar: Odisha BJP has today made serious allegations against police in relation to the gang rape and murder of a 45-year-old woman in Balikuma village under Kankadahada police limits in Dhenkanal district. BJP Mahila Morcha president Prabhati Parida alleged that the police are trying to save the people involved in the crime.

Addressing a press conference at the State party office here on Friday, Prabhati said that the district police has failed to act against the main culprits and is trying to shield the accused.

"Apart from the arrested four accused, more people are involved in the crime. As the victim, Jayamani, was the prime witness in the rape case of her niece, a conspiracy was hatched to eliminate her," alleged Prabhati.

Police have made the arrests under pressure and vehemently trying to save others involved in the incident, she added.

Meanwhile, president of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee Prasad Harichandan has called for a State wide agitation by the party on June 19 over the gang rape case.

Besides, he demanded trial of the case in a fast track court, security and Rs 20 lakh compensation to the family.

Earlier on Thursday, police had arrested four in connection with the incident which include the prime accused Hari Patra, who is the son-in-law of the deceased.
