Bhubaneswar: While tension is mounting in Kankadahada gang rape and murder case, BJD MLA from Parjanga and Transport Minister Nursingha Sahu today demanded capital punishment for the accused.

The minister today visited Kankadahada and met the family members of the victim. Talking to newsmen, Sahu said the incident should not be politicised. “The accused should be awarded death penalty for the crime,” added Sahu.

Former women's commission member Namrata Chadda along with some other women activists also met the family members of the victim, Jayamani, on Saturday.

Though police has arrested four persons in the case, the villagers allege that the main accused in the crime is still at large and police have arrested innocent people.

Besides, Odisha BJP had earlier on Friday alleged that apart from the arrested four accused, more people are involved in the crime.

Meanwhile, police have today recorded the statement of the victim's younger son under section 164 of CrPC.

Kankadahada Inspector-In-Charge Subash Panda said police investigation is on into the case. "Police will not spare anyone involved in the incident," said Sahu, adding that a 10-member police team has been deployed in the village in view of the tense situation.

Earlier on Thursday, police had arrested four people in connection with the incident which includes the prime accused Hari Patra, the son-in-law of the deceased.
