Bhubaneswar: Union Petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan today expressed hope that the ruling-BJD in Odisha will support the Triple Talaq Bill in the Rajya Sabha.

Citing that the a few MPs of the BJD had opposed the bill in Lok Sabha, Dharmendra Pradhan said that the party which preaches development of women, should rise above the shallow mindset and vote for the Triple Talaq bill in Rajya Sabha.

“A couple of MPs of BJD had opposed the bill in the Lok Sabha. I urge the CM to rise above party politics and shallow mindset and support this women-oriented Bill,” said Dharmendra.

On the other hand, BJD said that it has never opposed the bill; instead it wants some lacunae to be addressed.

“False information is being spread that BJD is opposing the bill. There are certain contradictions and confusion between the sections of the bill. We have moved proposals seeking amendments,” said BJD MP Prasanna Acharya.
