Bhubaneswar: Union Petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan today backed the Odisha government’s stance on the Polavaram Project, saying that the project undertaken by Andhra Pradesh is against the interest of the State.

“The Odisha BJP since the beginning has been protesting against the project. The Odisha BJP is still against the current central government on the strategy adopted on the Polavaram Project. Not only Odisha, but also Chhattisgarh and Telengana are also equally affected adversely by the Polavaram project. We support the steps have been taken by the three states to protect their rights on Polavaram which includes taking the matter on to the judicial platform,” said Dharmendra Pradhan.

Moreover, Dharmendra Pradhan also blamed the erstwhile UPA-led government at the centre for the approval of the project in the first place.

“As a government at the centre, one is forced to maintain continuity of ongoing projects. Hence the BJP-led central government is forced to take this project forward as a Parliamentary act has been enacted. But Odisha BJP has made its stance very clear on the matter and will continue to support voices against the Polavaram project,” Pradhan said.
