Paradip: Authorities of the Dhamra Port Company Ltd (DPCL) today announced an ex-gratia of Rs 20 lakh to the next of kin of the three labourers who got killed after a coal heap caved in the stockyards here on Tuesday.

The decision was taken at a review meeting held by the authorities in presence of the District Collector, Sub-Collector, SP and Labour Officer.

During the meeting, the company decided to provide employment to one family member of the deceased and monetary assistance to educate the children of the family.

This apart, the company would also bear the expenses of the injured undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) at Bhardak, sources said.

On Tuesday, at least three labourers were killed and as many injured when a coal heap caved in on the DPCL premises leading to arson and violence at Dhamra in Bhadrak district. As soon as the news spread, hundreds of people including some labourers went on rampage ransacking the office, torched the main gate and even heckled CEO Subrat Tripathy.
