Devotee dies inside Puri Srimandir

Puri: In an unfortunate incident, a 75-year-old devotee from Kendrapara died near Kalpabata inside Puri Srimandir today afternoon.

The devotee, identified as Ajay Kumar Das from Kendrapara district, was resting near the Kalpabata (considered as the wish fulfilling tree) when he suddenly fell unconscious. Soon after he was discovered dead.

The reason behind the death is yet to be ascertained. However, it is suspected that the old man may have died of excessive heat or heart attack.

The 'Kalpabata' is situated in between the Satyanarayan Temple and Mukti Mandap on Srimandir premises. A pedestal (Mandap) made of stone and clay has been constructed around the stem of Kalpabata.

To make it more attractive, many appliques have been installed on the branches of the tree. There is a also walkway around the tree, and it is believed that going round the Kalpabata thrice fulfills one's wishes.
