Bhubaneswar: Dengue fever scare has gripped Bhubaneswar after seven persons from the Salia Sahi slum here tested positive for the disease.

Though government statistics peg the number of dengue affected persons at seven, unofficial sources put the number in double digits.

In the wake of a spate of dengue cases reported in the last couple of days, the administration has stepped up measures to prevent and curb incidents of dengue.

“No fresh cases have been identified. We are regularly sending blood samples for testing. We need around six to seven days to get the situation back to normal,” said Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) mayor Ananta Narayan Jena.

“In order to curb the spread of dengue, 10 mobile health teams have been set up and ward officers have been kept on alert. We are also taking up awareness drives,” said Bhubaneswar (North) MLA Priyadarshi Mishra.
