Kendrapara: One person has died and as many as 45 persons have tested Dengue positive in Gobindpur panchayat of Aul block in a span of two weeks triggering panic in the area.
Presently, 22 persons are undergoing treatment for the disease at Gobindpur Community Health Centre (CHC) while many others have been referred to either Cuttack SCB or sent to Jajpur.
"Everyday two to four people are testing dengue positive," a local resident said, adding that in spite of the serious situation, the administration has done nothing except sending a doctor to take stock of the condition.
Though the reason for such a fast outbreak of the disease is yet to be ascertained, Dengue prevention programme through source reduction and vector-control measures like destruction of mosquito breeding sites, distribution of mosquito nets are reportedly being undertaken by the government.
"We had informed about the situation to the headquarters hospital authorities and the District Medical Officer (DMO) had sent an inspection team five days ago. We need to spread awareness on the disease and find out the exact cause for the outbreak," Gobindpur CHC medical officer, Sujit Jena said.
