Cuttack: Vector-borne disease dengue claimed another life, taking the total death toll in Odisha this season to two, here on Saturday.

Harihar Mallick of Basudevpur in Bhadrak district, who was undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, died this morning. According to sources, Mallick was admitted to the hospital on August 8 and later shifted to the Central ICU the next day as his condition deteriorated.

The first dengue death of the season was reported on August 9 when 35-year-old Som Prakash Mishra of Bihar died while undergoing treatment at the SCB.

Hospital authorities said a special ward has been set up and two beds are available at the central ICU for dengue patients. Besides, dengue test is being conducted at the hospital free of cost. SCB Nodal Officer (Dengue) Sri Prasad Mohanty is monitoring the situation in the Central ICU.

However, the number of dengue patients is rising by the day with people mostly from Bhadrak and Balasore districts getting admitted to the hospital, said an official of the hospital.
