Cuttack: First case of dengue death at Cuttack's SCB Medical College and Hospital was reported after a patient from Keonjhar died while undergoing treatment here on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Trilokya Barik of Dimiria village under Nandipada police limits.

Barik was tested positive for dengue a day after being admitted to the hospital on June 22.  The patient was undergoing treatment in Medicine department's ICU and he breathed his last yesterday night, dengue nodal officer, Sriprasada Mohanty informed.

According to sources, special measures have been undertaken at SCB for the treatment on dengue cases from different parts of the State.

A special dengue ward with a provision of 150 beds has been kept ready with six ventilators. Adequate number of nurses, para-medical staff and doctors have also been deployed at the dengue ward.

It is pertinent to mention that dengue had claimed its first life in Odisha with a woman succumbing to the vector borne disease at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on June 7.
