Salipur: Barely four days after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik informed the State Assembly that no arrest has been made so far in only one out of 16 egg hurling incidents reported in Odisha in last six years, police arrested six persons for their alleged involvement in attack on MP Baijayant Panda in Mahanga on May 30.

The arrested include Sarat Jena, Sarat Maharana, Santanu Mallik, Rajesh Sahoo, Santosh Jena and Sankarsan Mallik, informed Investigating Officer Suryakanta Ray, DSP Cuttack headquarters.

On Septmber 11, the CM had informed the House that as many as 89 accused have been arrested so far in 15 incidents while in one incident, no arrest has been made yet, Patnaik had added. The lone incident reportedly was in the case where Panda was attacked with eggs during the inauguration of an overhead water project in Mahanga, Cuttack on May 30.

Reacting to the report of arrests, Panda tweeted that “Hmm... 4 months after attack (w/eggs AND stones, in presence of 2 police platoons, on live tv). & assembly embarrassment as only exception”

The egg attack on Panda was allegedly carried out by supporters of Mahanga MLA and Health Minister Pratap Jena while he visited Jatiparilo village near Salipur.
