Delay in +2 evaluation leaves students jittery

Bhubaneswar: As the evaluation of Plus Two papers has failed to take off due to the ongoing agitation of Block Grant teachers, students fear that a delay in the publication of the result might affect their admission into national level institutions.

“Five days have already passed and the State government is still considering alternatives for the evaluation of papers. If this continues for a few more days, I am sure the government will not be able meet the result publication deadline and it will directly affect our admission in institutions outside Odisha,” said Mohan Sahu, a medical aspirant.

Sahu stated that the government should have taken preventive measures keeping in mind such a situation.

Another student, keen to move outside Odisha for higher studies, termed the government’s lackadaisical approach to resolve the matter ‘unfortunate.’ “Is the government serious about our careers?” he wondered.

While the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the test for JEE (Main) a few days back, other national level entrance tests are scheduled to be held in the coming days and the results will be declared by May-end.

Teachers engaged in the evaluation process opined, at the current pace, it will take another month for completion of the process.

“At a time when there should be 10 examiners on a single table, currently only one or two are on duty. It is completely impossible to evaluate the papers if the situation continues. The government must act on this promptly,” said an examiner.

Meanwhile, CHSE authorities today said they have requested the teachers of private, aided and autonomous degree colleges as well as the newly created universities to join the evaluation.

“Simultaneously, we have urged the concerned college principals and university vice chancellors to relieve the teachers they are willing to spare so that they can join the evaluation at the nearest valuation centres,” CHSE chairman Basudeb Chhatoi stated.
