Dhenkanal: With instances of distressed farmers setting their pest-infested crops on fire and committing suicides allegedly over loan burden and crop loss on the rise, one more farmer reportedly killed himself under similar circumstances in Dhenkanal district today.

According to sources, Basu Hembram, a farmer of Lembupala village under Kamakhyanagar block in Dhenkanal district committed suicide by consuming poison allegedly over crop loss. He was rushed to the Kamakhyanagar hospital and later shifted to the Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) after his condition deteriorated. However, Hembram died while undergoing treatment at the DHH today.

The family members alleged that crop loss and debt burden forced Hembram to take the extreme step.
