Bargarh:  A farmer of Nuapalli village under Gaisilet block in Bargarh district allegedly committed suicide today by consuming poison.

The deceased identified as Khemsagar Biswal had borrowed lakhs of rupees from private money lenders to marry off his daughter. However, he failed to repay the amount due to massive crop failure for the last three years, family sources said.

Biswal was under mental duress. He consumed poison on February 15 and was admitted to Bargarh district headquarters hospital in a critical condition. Later, he was shifted to Burla after his condition deteriorated. However, he died yesterday during treatment.

Meanwhile, PCC president Prasad Harichandan met the bereaved family at Nuapalli village. He demanded Rs 30 lakh compensation for the kin of the deceased.
