Bhadrak: One more farmer committed suicide today by consuming pesticide in Rahimpur village under Basudevpur block of Bhadrak district allegedly over crop loss.

As per reports, the farmer took the extreme step after failing to repay a bank loan of Rs 1,20,000.

He was reportedly depressed over the financial burden following crop loss due to scanty rainfall.

On October 3, a farmer in Nuapada district committed suicide allegedly over crop loss and debt burden. He had taken a loan of Rs 30,000 for paddy cultivation. However, he ended his life after the crops failed due to lack of rain.

Earlier during the Budget session of Assembly in March, the then Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy had informed the house that as many as 1,895 farmers committed suicide in the State between 2005 and 2014.
