Subarnapur: A farmer allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticides at Manikapur village under Biramaharajpur block in the district after he failed to repay agricultural loans.

The deceased has been identified as Chakradhara Rajahans.

According to family members of Rajahans, he has taken Rs 50,000 loan from Musurndi branch of State Bank of India and Rs 55,000 from Musurndi cooperative society. Besides, he has also taken loans from two other private financing institutions for agricultural purpose last year.

However, he faced heavy crop loss due to drought like situation. Similarly, this year Rajahansa has taken loans for brinjal agriculture but suffered a huge loss and was under severe stress due to loan burdens. Unable to repay the loans he has taken the extreme step, family members of the farmer alleged.
