Death toll in Khurda explosion rises to 5

Khurda: The death toll in an explosion at Siko village under Jankia police limits here on Saturday has reached 5.

According to sources, a blast occurred in the house of one Sanei Sethi in the wee hours of today. The exact reason behind the blast is still unclear while police have started an investigation into the incident.

The deceased have been identified as Sanei Sethi’s wife, three daughters and a neighbour Dutee Sethi (70).

Earlier, the bodies of Sethi’s daughter Dolly Sethi (15) and Dutee were recovered from the spot in the morning.

“We were inside our house when we heard a loud explosion at around 6:40 am today.  Two bodies were recovered from the spot while efforts were undertaken to recover the bodies which were trapped under the debris of the house,” said a local resident.
