Death of newborn triggers tension in Anandpur hospital

Anandpur: Tension ran high at the Anandpur sub-divisional hospital in Keonjhar district this morning following the death of a new born baby.

Reports said Pratima Sa of Patara Sahi in Anandpur town had given birth to a boy at the hospital yesterday. This morning, the baby died minutes after being administered an antibiotic injection by a nurse.

Tension flared up in the hospital after the family members alleged that the baby died due to a wrong injection given by the nurse.

Following information, police rushed to the hospital to take charge of the situation.

“The health of my son was all right yesterday. But after the nurse gave the injection to my boy in the morning, his body became cold. Seeing his condition, I called the doctor who arrived after some time. After examining my son, the doctor said he is dead,” said the sobbing mother.

Asked about the incident, Dr Krushna Chandra Das, pediatric specialist inf the hospital, said the injection the nurse gave to the new boy today was the same injection which had been given to him yesterday.

Das, however, said he would probe the incident following the complaints of the family members of the deceased.
