Angul: Selfie fever turned out fatal for a youth who was crushed to death by a wild elephant at Nuapada under Khamara range in Angul district today.

Jaydev Naik of Nimiribedha was trying to pose for a photo with the animal that had strayed away from its herd and sneaked into the human habitation for last two days.

The incident took place when the villagers were trying to chase the jumbo back to the herd and Naik came closer to the pachyderm to take a selfie but it turned on him.

A vehicle was called to the scene to take him to the hospital. However, Naik was declared brought dead by doctors at the hospital.

In September, Ashok Bharti, a resident of Mandiakudar village of Kuanramunda forest range in Rourkela was also killed in a similar manner.
