Brahmagiri: Body of a 42-ft long and 28-ft wide whale shark belonging to an endangered species found at Baidhara Pentha beach in Brahmagiri of Puri district today morning.

Satapada range forest staff reached the spot to examine under what possible circumstances the marine mammal has died and reached the shore.

Satapada Ranger Achyutananda Das said, “Cause of the death of the whale shark, Rhincodon typus, has not been known yet. Only after post mortem the cause can be ascertained. We have already requested the veterinary college doctors to undertake post mortem.”

Das further stated looking at the condition of the whale shark body it is gauged the marine mammal might have died 10-15 days back. However, the carcass was brought to the shore today.

Local sources said the whale shark body was spotted close to the Baidhara Pentha beach yesterday evening.
