Bhubaneswar: A day after a girl student of the DAV School of Business Management (DSBM) here allegedly committed suicide in the college hostel that left the state shocked, the Commissionerate Police today recorded statements of 10 girl students of the college, hostel Superintendent, warden and security guard in connection with the incident.

A five-member team of the Capital Police Station, led by the additional  IIC, that has been formed to probe into the incident recorded the statements.

Meanwhile, based on complaint of Tanya's family members, the Commissionerate Police registered a case under Section -306 of the IPC.

DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said, "A case of unnatural death was registered yesterday. On the basis of her family's complaint, another case has been registered under Section-306 of the IPC for abetting the suicide. Besides, a five-member team has been formed to probe the circumstances leading to the suicide."

On Tuesday, the undergraduate student of the college, Tanya Banerjee, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan of the hostel room.

The family members of the deceased alleged that she was being tortured by her seniors and juniors on false charges of theft for which she was under mental pressure and took the extreme step. As per the complaint, she had called her mother last night and cried over phone while speaking about the torture inflicted upon her by a few seniors. However, the exact reason behind her death is yet to be established.
