Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) today directed Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi to submit the probe report on the death of DAV management student Tanya Banerjee within three weeks.

The rights body has fixed December 26 for next hearing of the case.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Commissionerate Police had recorded the statements of parents of Tanya Banerjee.

Tanya’s mother alleged physical and mental torture inflicted by a few seniors forced her daughter to commit suicide and demanded strong action against the persons responsible for her death.

Besides, the family members further alleged that police are not expediting the probe process since one of the college girls interrogated in this connection belongs to an influential family.

Post mortem report has confirmed that Tanya died of suffocation due to hanging.

On November 28, Tanya’s body was found hanging inside the hostel of DAV School of Business Management in Bhubaneswar.
