Bhubaneswar: Tension erupted at Hanspal Chhak on the National Highway-16 and vehicular movement between Cuttack and Bhubaneswar were affected when locals staged a road blockade today protesting against the attack of a traffic police on a truck driver who refused to pay the money demanded by the cop.

Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded at both the sides of the road for around three hours due to the road blockade. After an assurance from the senior police officials to remove the concerned traffic cop from any assignment in the area and sending the driver to a hospital for treatment, the tension eased and normalcy resumed.

Sources said the truck driver coming from Cuttack side towards Bhubaneswar was stopped by the traffic cop near Hanspal Chhak for driving permit paper verification. When the traffic cop found the papers furnished by the truck driver as per the rules, he demanded money from the driver.

After the truck driver refused to pay any money, the traffic cop beaten him black and blue leading to loss of his consciousness.
