Sambalpur: Acting on a tip-off, the district police today arrested seven members of an inter-state dacoit gang while scheming to loot from a branch office of Manappuram Gold Loan located in Sambalpur town and seized five pistols from their possession.

Out of the seven arrested four were residents of Uttar Pradesh, two from Bihar and one of Punjab.

Elaborating about the arrest, Sambalpur SP Akhileshwar Singh told newsmen, "After getting an information that a person sustaining bullet injury has been admitted to the Burla hospital, police personnel reached there and got to know by questioning him that some people of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Punjab have reached the city with a plan to loot the Manappuram Gold Loan office. Therefore, the police personnel were kept on high alert."

The Sambalpur SP added the police team reached near Kainsir canal following an information some people are roaming in the area. "When the suspected persons were frisked, weapons were found from their possession," Singh stated.

Notably, the member of the inter-state gang admitted to  the Burla hospital was injured in a firing at Haladipali in Bargarh on January 18.
