Jajpur: During a loot bid, dacoits allegedly attacked a family and looted cash and ornaments worth lakhs from their house in Padmanabhapur village under Balichandrapur police limits of the district late on Thursday night.

The incident occurred at around 1 am last night when seven dacoits allegedly broke open the iron grill of the terrace and entered the house of one Ramchandra Behura here.

As per sources, the robbers asked the family to divulge details of where their cash and jewellery were kept. Then they threatened the family to give them the wardrobe keys. Since the family objected, the dacoits attacked and injured them critically.

The dacoits ransacked the house and then looted ornaments worth lakhs from the almirah. They also broke open a box and took away Rs 25000 cash.

The dacoits attempted to enter another house but failed to break the lock to get inside.

On getting information, Balichandrapur police rushed to the spot along with a scientific team and initiated an investigation into the incident.

"Ramchandra Behura, his wife and younger son have been injured in the attack. We have launched a probe and the dacoits will be arrested soon," a police official said.
