Dacoit injured in accidental firing during loot bid

Khurda: A dacoit was injured when one of his associates accidentally fired a bullet during a loot bid on NH-16 in Khurda district late Monday night.

Sadar police have arrested the injured identified as Sumeet Badajena who lives in Begunia of Khurda.

Police sources said Sumeet, accompanied by two of his associates, attempted to loot at gunpoint from a truck parked near Tapang chowk while one of his aides accidentally discharged his firearm.

Sumeet has sustained injuries on his left chest and is reportedly stated to be critical. He has been shifted to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.

Meanwhile, his associates who fled the spot after the police raid are yet to be apprehended.
