Bolangir: Vigilance sleuths today arrested Bolangir Civil Supplies Officer (CSO) Ranjan Seth on charges of acquisition and possession of property disproportionate to his known source of income.

Sources said Seth was arrested by the anti-corruption unit for amassing disproportionate assets amounting to Rs 1.21 crores. The accused will be forwarded to court today.

Earlier on August 5 this year, a Vigilance team had conducted simultaneous raids on the office and houses of the CSO at five places, including his  government quarters at Bolangir Officers Colony, his in-laws’ houses in Bargarh and an apartment in Bhubaneswar.

In a related development, the Vigilance arrested a Public Works Department (PWD) junior engineer, Dilip Sahu, for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 15,000 from a contractor in Padampur of Bargarh district.

As per the complaint, the junior engineer had demanded the bribe from contractor Anugraha Patnaik for construction of a culvert at Diptipur village in the district. Later, he was caught red-handed by Vigilance officials.
