Gangster Sushant Dhala Samant, Corporator Ranjita Biswal on remand

Cuttack: The JMFC (Rural) court Cuttack granted permission to Sadar police to take notorious gangster Sushant Dhala Samant and arrested BJD corporator of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), Ranjita Biswal, on a three-day remand from today.

Both Sushant and Ranjita will be grilled in connection with the firing on contractor Bijay Pal.

Earlier on March 7, the Commissionerate Police had arrested CMC ward no 7 corporator Ranjita for her alleged involvement in the firing case that was orchestrated by Sushant from inside jail.

It had been alleged that D-brothers had hatched a conspiracy from jail to kill four persons, mostly contractors and ex-members of their gang.

BJD corporator Ranjita had allegedly supplied firearms to one Mrutyunjay Nayak alias Miku who was arrested on March 4 for trying to kill contractor Bijay Kumar Pal of Subhadrapur.

Following Ranjita’s arrest, she was suspended from preliminary membership of BJD.

Senior officials of Commissionerate Police informed that efforts will now be taken to conduct a thorough probe in connection with the firing case.
