Bhadrak: With improvement in the law and order situation, Curfew has been relaxed for four hours in Bhadrak on Sunday.

The prohibitory orders was initially lifted from 8 am to 11 am and later extended till 12 noon to allow people to purchase essential commodities with the administration keeping a close watch on the overall situation.

There was rush on prominent streets in Bhadrak with people queuing up before shops to buy vegetables and other essential commodities.

District administration officials informed that after the four hour relaxations today, the restrictions and Curfew will be reimposed till 7 am tomorrow.

The curfew was earlier clamped indefinitely in Bhadrak town on Friday last following large-scale incidents of shop looting and vandalism over posting of some objectionable religious remarks against some deities earlier this week.

Official sources said that the decision to relax the Curfew was taken after reviewing the situation that showed signs of considerable improvement with no untoward incident being reported in the last 24 hours.

Heavy police security arrangements have been made with mobile police vans deployed at all crossings and sensitive localities in Bhadrak.

36 platoons of police force and central para-millitary forces have now been deployed to maintain law and order in the region.
